In an old shed on the Hidden Valley Farm is the Green Door Gourmet market. If you ever wanted to buy your produce from a place where you could see where it was growing, this is your place. The second photo below is of the herb garden in front of the shed.
Continuing on the walk around the back side of the shed you found where the veggies are grown. The farmers were still working at 10am when I get there. Made me want to be a farmer. In the shed were all varieties of people. I don't think I've ever seen people be this happy about buying produce, not that they were laughing about it, but they looked content. Just the idea that you bought your food fresh and on just the other side of the shed was where it was grown, simple, and the people who farmed your food where there to tell you about it and have a chat.
This is a picture of the Swiss Chard I bought. Looks delicious, and it was.
This is the produce I bought, the Swiss Chard is hanging and cooking. Also bought were two zucchinni, two yellow squash, two bell peppers and four small cucumbers, and [not pictured:] a dozen organic eggs from West Wind Farms, an 18 oz. jar of delicious Raspberry Jam from Green Door Gourmet and handmade Norwood cheese from Kenny's Farmhouse Cheese -- all for $23, what a deal!
On my way to the days' next activity, I saved a turtle.
Then I went to the fundraiser put on by some children where I bought some delicious sugar cookies and had yummy lemonade, all for a good cause.
After that, began building a scale model of a portion of a wall for class and studied some Releasing the Power of Junior Youth material [part of a sequence of materials for community building] with some friends. All in all, a very good day.
